Williamsville South Field Hockey Pre-season Preview
Williamsville South enters the 2026 field hockey season with a clear emphasis on togetherness.
Mary Ferenczy, who has coached at Williamsville South for 40 years, and assistant coach Abby Ferenczy described this year's team as "a great group of hardworking girls" that wants "to succeed and do well together as a collective team."
That collective piece is central to the team's outlook. Williamsville South brings back seniors and adds a large group of 10th graders from the JV level, giving the roster a blend of older voices and younger players stepping into bigger varsity roles.
"Biggest strength is our ability to work together and be positive," the coaches said. "With being so young, the area that needs improvement would be playing as a collective group but will come together more each game we play!"
The identity they want is simple: a team that works, stays connected and keeps playing. The coaches said they want opponents and spectators to see Williamsville South as "hardworking" and a group that will "never give up on a game regardless of what the scoreboard states."
Players to Watch
The leadership group starts with captains Ella Jackson, Teagan Kosmala and Katharine Udy. The coaches said the three captains show teammates "how to be a team, sticking together and being there for one another," while also stressing the value of having fun with each other and with field hockey.
Kylie Moore is the player the coaches identified as a breakout candidate. Moore scored one goal as a sophomore in 2025, and Williamsville South will look for her to keep taking steps in the attack.
Megan Loretz was named as a player who could become an important new contributor in a larger role. Loretz has already recorded a varsity goal in her career, scoring as a freshman in 2024.
Kaelyn Ezak is expected to be an important midfield piece, while Adrianna Solazzo was highlighted as a player to watch on penalty corners. In goal, Paige Sullivan is expected to take on the main goalkeeper role after the coaches said she was "a large asset" on the JV team last season.
Williamsville South's attacking approach will be built around "a lot of movement and communication," according to the coaches.
