West Seneca West Boys Volleyball Pre-season Preview

West Seneca West enters the 2026 boys volleyball season with several varsity returners across its attacking and defensive positions.

That returning experience starts with Patrick Melohusky, an opposite/setter in the Class of 2027, and Nathan Meier, a middle blocker in the Class of 2027. Both bring experience from each of the past two seasons. Harrison Illig, an outside hitter in the Class of 2028, is in the same category and gives coach Brett Widman another familiar name on the pin.

Matthew Kibler, a libero/defensive specialist in the Class of 2027, also returns with prior varsity experience from last season. The current roster lists Connor Gebauer as a setter, with Jacob Maley, Owen Jachlewski, Randy Zawadzki, Brady Baumgarten, Tyler Meier and Riley Conrad also part of the group entering the year.

The first week should give West Seneca West an immediate read on where it stands. The schedule begins Sept. 8 at Williamsville South, followed by a Sept. 9 home match against Williamsville East. Eden/North Collins visits Sept. 14 before West Seneca West heads to Starpoint on Sept. 16.

The September run continues with road matches at Orchard Park, Frontier and Hamburg before Grand Island comes to West Seneca West on Sept. 30. October includes a West Seneca East match at The R.O.C.K. Sports Complex on Oct. 2, a home rematch with Williamsville South on Oct. 5, and a late home stretch featuring St. Joseph's, Starpoint, Amherst and Hamburg.

For a team with recent success and a roster that includes experience at several spots, the preseason question is how quickly West Seneca West can turn that familiarity into a steady rotation.
