Starpoint Builds Around Returning Top Three

Starpoint girls golf enters the 2026 season with a clear returning core and a larger developmental group behind it.

Head coach Christian Johnson, entering his second year leading the program, said Starpoint has three returning players and five new players after an undefeated division championship season a year ago.

"We hope to be competitive in our division and also to compete with some of the larger schools we will face," Johnson said.

The returning group starts with Evelyn Ohol, Sophia Mussell and Connie Case. Ohol is listed as Starpoint's top returning low scorer and, according to the published 2025-26 statistics, was medalist three times as an eighth grader. Johnson described Ohol as a third-year starter entering her freshman season.

"The sky is the limit for Evie who hopes to challenge the best players in WNY," Johnson said.

Mussell gives Starpoint its senior captain and another player at the top of the lineup. Johnson said Mussell has been part of the varsity team for four years and has played in ECIC and sectional tournament competition.

Johnson said Mussell "hopes to continue her steady play" as she finishes her high school golf career. "She is a great kid and leader of our team," Johnson said.

Case, a sophomore, is another returning player Johnson identified as someone who can take a step forward as Starpoint shapes the rest of the lineup. The roster also includes Fiona Buczkowski, Lila Jones, Eva Robison, Kaylee Smith and Gianna Tice.

Short Game In Focus

Johnson pointed to the top of Starpoint's lineup as the team's biggest strength, with Ohol, Mussell and Case giving Starpoint a foundation while the newer players develop.

The practice emphasis will be around the greens.

"We hope to really improve our short game this year," Johnson said. "Strokes gained around the greens is the name of the game. That's where we will focus a lot of practice time."

Johnson also said Deerwood Golf Course in North Tonawanda gives Starpoint a useful home-course setup because Starpoint can work across 27 holes.

"Getting to practice all 9's should give us a distinct advantage over the teams we are playing," Johnson said.

Schedule Landmarks

Starpoint's listed schedule opens Sept. 10 at Deerwood's Fawn-9 against Clarence. Starpoint then travels to Lancaster on Sept. 15 before returning home Sept. 16 against Orchard Park on the Buck 9.

Starpoint is scheduled to visit Williamsville North on Sept. 22, host Depew on Sept. 24 and host Williamsville East/South on Sept. 29. Starpoint's listed regular-season schedule closes Oct. 8 at East Aurora.

The season goal is straightforward for Johnson's group: work hard, practice hard, enjoy the course and push for another small-schools division championship.
