Serena Smith's hat trick powered Randolph past Ellicottville

Serena Smith had a hand in all four Randolph goals, scoring three and assisting on another as Randolph defeated Ellicottville 4-1 on Oct. 6 at Ellicottville Central High School.

Randolph took control with three first-half goals. Ella Monroe opened the scoring with 33:00 remaining in the half, finishing with an assist from Serena Smith. Smith scored with 30:00 left, then added another goal off a Monroe assist with 28:00 remaining to give Randolph a 3-0 lead that held through halftime.

Smith completed her hat trick with 37:00 remaining in the second half, with Erin Little providing the assist. Monroe finished with a goal and an assist, while Smith's three goals and one assist gave her seven points in the contest.

Ellicottville scored with 2:00 remaining when Juleana Lyon converted with an assist from Taylor Perks.

Ady Andrews made 15 saves for Ellicottville. Randolph's Stella Smith recorded five saves without allowing a goal in 45 minutes, and Harper Russell made five saves and allowed one goal in 35 minutes.

The result brought Randolph to 8-2-0-1 overall and 7-0 in CCAA 2, placing the team first in the division standings through the contest date. Ellicottville fell to 6-4-1-1 overall and 4-2-0-1 in division play, placing the team third in CCAA 2.

Serena Smith finished the game with season totals of 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points. Monroe had three goals and one assist on the season, while Lyon had nine goals and two assists for Ellicottville.
