SALAMANCA, NY- The Salamanca Warriors defeated the Medina Mustangs 50-7 Friday evening to advance to the Class C championship at Highmark Stadium.
After Medina's opening drive stalled out, The Warriors dealt their first blow. Salamanca's first score came at the 5:12 mark of the first quarter. Senior quarterback Maddox Isaac scrambled to his right and connected with senior wide receiver Corey Holleran from nine yards out.
Despite the final score, Holleran’s touchdown reception was the only score of the first quarter.
The tide really started to turn in the second quarter.
Less than two minutes into the second quarter, Isaac connected with Holleran once again on a fade for a 68-yard score. On the following Warrior drive, Isaac scored on a one-yard quarterback blast. Then, with 2:34 left in the half, Isaac completed a wheel route to senior running back Xavier Peters for a 68-yard touchdown.
At half Salamanca possessed a 28-0 lead. A lead the Warriors had no interest in relinquishing.
Salamanca’s dominance continued in the third quarter as the Warriors scored 22 points in a span of seven and a half minutes. During that time, Xavier Peters scored twice more on the ground (12,40), Isaac threw a 33-yard another touchdown pass to Holleran, and sophomore kicker Easton Chuddy made a 23-yard field goal.
Medina’s only score of the night came on a 23-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Preston Woodworth to junior receiver Kolton Fletcher.
A running clock was used in the fourth quarter.
Salamanca’s win will have them meet Portville at Highmark Stadium. It will mark Salamanca’s second year in a row making the sectional final (defeated Medina 36-21 last season) and the second time the Panthers and Warriors meet this season (24-19 Salamanca). Kickoff is set between the two for next Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
