Portville tops Williamsville South in four sets

Overview

• Portville defeated Williamsville South 3-1 on Oct. 5, winning 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21.
• Williamsville South tied the match with a second-set victory before Portville took the third and fourth sets.

• Portville improved to 9-2 overall, while Williamsville South fell to 6-2. Both stood first in their respective divisions.

Portville won the final two sets to defeat Williamsville South 3-1 in girls volleyball Monday, Oct. 5, at Williamsville South High School.

Portville opened with a 25-16 win before South answered 25-22 in the second set. Portville regained the match lead with a 25-18 third-set victory and closed out the road win 25-21 in the fourth.

Peyton Solomon led Williamsville South with 16 kills and added 14 digs, two blocks and two aces. Gabriella Hodgson finished with 25 assists, eight digs, three blocks, two kills and an ace.

Corynn Peterson recorded 11 digs and four aces for South. Avery Oehler added eight digs and three aces, while Kaitlin Pauly contributed six kills and two blocks.

Through the contest, Solomon had 83 kills and 77 digs on the season. Hodgson’s season totals included 171 assists, and Peterson had 134 digs.

Portville improved to 9-2 overall. The nonleague result left Portville’s CCAA 1 record at 8-0, placing first in the division through Oct. 5.

Williamsville South fell to 6-2 overall and stood first in ECIC 3 with a 5-0 division record.
