Pioneer swept Cheektowaga for first win

Pioneer earned their first girls volleyball win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Cheektowaga on Sept. 14 at Cheektowaga Central High School. The visitors won 25-20, 25-12 and 25-17 to improve to 1-3 overall.

The opening set was the closest of the match, with Pioneer winning by five points. Pioneer followed with a 13-point margin in the second set and completed the sweep with an eight-point margin in the third.

Leah Jorgensen, whom Pioneer's coach highlighted as a standout, finished with eight kills, three blocks and two aces in the confirmed boxscore. Megan Boldt supplied 19 assists, two digs and an ace, and Shaniyah Lawrence contributed six kills and six digs.

London Kinmartin recorded seven digs. Madelyn Souder added five digs and two kills, Lexie Dryden had three blocks and two kills, and Kaiser Isabella finished with a block and a kill.

The cross-division result left Pioneer at 0-3 in ECIC 4 and fifth in the supplied standings through the contest date. Cheektowaga fell to 0-3 overall and remained 0-2 in ECIC 3, where they shared the fifth-place ranking with Williamsville South.
