Niagara Wheatfield built a three-goal halftime lead and defeated North Tonawanda 3-1 on Oct. 5 at North Tonawanda High School's Turf Stadium.
Ayva Dexter and Hailey Werth each contributed a goal and an assist as Niagara Wheatfield did all of their scoring in the first half. Eliana Higgins added a goal, and Emmeline Berg recorded an assist.
Dexter opened the scoring with 15:10 remaining in the first half, finishing with an assist from Werth. Just 55 seconds later, Werth scored off an assist from Berg to make it 2-0 with 14:15 left in the half. Higgins extended the lead to 3-0 with 5:34 remaining, with Dexter providing the assist.
North Tonawanda scored in the second half, but Niagara Wheatfield's first-half cushion held up. Gabriela Ellis-Santos played all 80 minutes in goal for Niagara Wheatfield, making six saves on seven shots faced and allowing one goal.
The victory moved Niagara Wheatfield to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in Niagara Frontier division play. Niagara Wheatfield stood fifth in the division standings. North Tonawanda fell to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the division and stood eighth.
