Newfane won the final two sets to defeat Amherst 3-2 in girls volleyball Thursday, Sept. 24, at Amherst Central High School's South Gym, extending their unbeaten start to 7-0.

Amherst took the opening set 25-19 before Newfane answered with a 25-19 win in the second. Amherst regained the match lead with a 25-21 victory in the third, putting Newfane one set from defeat.

Newfane forced a deciding set with a 26-24 win in the fourth, then closed the match with a 15-5 victory in the fifth.

The nondivision result left Newfane at 7-0 overall and 4-0 in N-O play. Newfane stood first in the N-O standings, with Wilson also 4-0 in division play. Amherst fell to 3-2 overall and remained 3-0 in ECIC 3, where Amherst stood second in the standings. Williamsville South and West Seneca East also had 3-0 division records.
