Outlook

Lackawanna enters the 2026 girls soccer season with a young roster and an emphasis on growth.

Head coach Felicia Wittmer described the team as young but full of potential. She said Lackawanna lost key players, but returns defensive pieces that can help the team create more chances going forward.

The biggest theme is versatility. Wittmer said players can move around the field and handle different roles, allowing Lackawanna to keep a fluid style even when players shift positions.

Communication is the main development point. Wittmer said the team needs more time together on the field, and the larger goal is improvement, especially for younger players, while keeping the season fun and successful in a way the players can define for themselves.

Players to Watch

Severiana Alvira is the returning player Wittmer identified as a likely step-forward candidate. Sophia Drozdowski is the incoming, promoted or newly featured player expected to become an important contributor.

Leigha Uhrinek is the player expected to help organize the midfield. Makenzi McMullen is noted as a senior who can be counted on to be vocal on the field, while Alvira is also described as a vocal leader whose value may not always show up in a box score.

The goalkeeper setup will be flexible. Wittmer said Lackawanna expects to have multiple keepers available throughout the season, with playing time depending on what the team needs elsewhere on the field.

Schedule

Lackawanna's 2026 schedule includes September games with CSAT, Maryvale, Cardinal O'Hara, Tonawanda and JFK.

The October schedule includes Mount Saint Mary Academy, Buffalo Seminary and JFK. A major program storyline is the new stadium turf field with lights, which gives Lackawanna the ability to host night events this season.
