Dersarkissian powers Barker/Roy-Hart past Springville, 29-24

Carter Dersarkissian rushed for 270 yards and three touchdowns to lead Barker/Roy-Hart to a 29-24 comeback victory over Springville on Friday, Sept. 25, at Barker Central High School.

Dersarkissian carried 35 times and added a 19-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Ark as Barker/Roy-Hart erased a nine-point halftime deficit and handed Springville their first loss of the season.

Springville led 8-0 after the first quarter and 16-7 at halftime. Barker/Roy-Hart scored eight unanswered points in the third quarter to close the gap to 16-15, then outscored Springville 14-8 in the fourth.

Springville coach Mark Benton said his team trailed 23-16 late in the fourth quarter before taking a 24-23 lead with just under five minutes remaining. According to Benton, Barker/Roy-Hart answered on the next possession, aided by 45 yards in penalties, to score the winning touchdown.

Aaron Bowerman added 65 rushing yards on nine carries for Barker/Roy-Hart, and Owen Maedel gained 25 yards on six carries. Maedel also intercepted a pass and recorded nine total tackles. John Brigham and Jakob West each finished with six total tackles, and Bowerman had a sack.

Grant Michalski led Springville with four catches for 72 yards and gained 54 yards on 10 carries. He also completed his only pass attempt for 38 yards. Liam Fisher completed seven of 10 passes for 97 yards and caught one pass for 38 yards. Ty Ruhland rushed for 44 yards on two carries, including a 41-yard gain.

Gavin Stanier led Springville with 14 total tackles, including one for loss. David Janora and Ross Michalski each had 13 total tackles, and Lane Wierzba had 11. Janora and Wierzba each recorded two tackles for loss.

Dersarkissian's season totals reached 613 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Grant Michalski finished the night with 484 rushing yards and 236 receiving yards for the season.

Barker/Roy-Hart improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in C North, sharing the top rank in the league standings with Cleveland Hill, which was 2-0 in league play. Springville fell to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, tied for third with JFK.
