Williamsville South sweeps St. Francis after third-set comeback

Williamsville South finished a road sweep Tuesday night, defeating St. Francis 25-17, 25-16, 27-25 in boys volleyball at St. Francis High School.

Williamsville South won the first two sets by eight and nine points. Coach Thom Knab said Williamsville South was down 24-18 in the third set before taking the comeback one point at a time and pulling out a 27-25 finish.

Knab said defense drove the result and added that the team's first tough serve at 24-18 in the third set set the tone for how Williamsville South wanted to finish.

Nathan Nguyen led with strong setting, blocking and front-row attacking, according to Knab. Knab also credited Dylan Hutchinson with big attacks when Williamsville South needed momentum and Wyatt Schnelle with strong play in the middle as both an attacker and blocker.

Knab said: “The team is starting to come together and learning to trust each other. They are learning that defense can lead them to victory.”

Williamsville South improved to 4-1 overall and stood at 1-0 in Division 2B.
