Albion takes fifth set to edge Roy-Hart

Albion won the deciding fifth set 15-5 to defeat Roy-Hart 3-2 in girls volleyball Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Albion High School.

The teams alternated set victories throughout the N-O matchup. Albion opened with a 25-15 win, but Roy-Hart answered by taking the second set 25-23. Albion regained the match lead with a 25-22 third-set victory before Roy-Hart forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

Albion then closed the match with a 10-point margin in the final set to secure their first division victory of the season.

Lauren Snyder led Roy-Hart with 11 kills and added 13 digs and three aces. Ava Flynn finished with 36 assists, 10 digs, three aces and two kills, while Lily Pabon Rosa paced the team with 28 digs and contributed two assists, two kills and an ace.

Tessa Degenhardt recorded nine kills and six digs for Roy-Hart. Nora Balcerzak added seven kills and a block, SamiLynn Denniston had six kills and five digs, and Zoe Healey recorded two blocks.

Through the match, Snyder's season totals stood at 58 kills and 31 aces. Flynn had 130 assists, and Pabon Rosa had 78 digs.

Albion improved to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in N-O play, placing fifth in the division standings through Sept. 29. Roy-Hart moved to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the division, placing fourth.
